Smart Eating And Weight Loss

Posted by luputtenan2 on Friday, March 15, 2013

The pounds have piled up; the pants are getting too tight. It is high time to start losing off the extra weight. Planning right from the beginning makes it easier to succeed in your weight loss plans.
Keep track of what you eat and the type of exercise you do every single day. Write everything down in your journal. This gets things organized and you will be better motivated to continue on.
Cooking your own meals let you have total control over what to put into your body. No more extra oily, salty or sweet food from cafes and restaurants to tempt you and make you stray from your diet. Get some good cookbooks promoting healthy weight loss recipes, some basic cookware and you are well on your way to healthy cooking. You might be pleasantly surprised at the results.
When shopping for groceries, be sure to check the calories count and list of ingredients listed on the food packages. Do not be misled by advertisements such as natural, sugar-free and non-fried. Look at the fine prints. Every little bit counts towards your weight loss goals.
Eat smaller portions at each meal. Invest in smaller size plates to make sure you are not tempted to eat more. Less food on a bigger plate might give you the impression that you are not eating enough and end up taking more food. Just make sure you are having well-balanced meals, even though smaller portions.
The occasional deviation from your diet is no big deal. Being too strict might lead to stress and this is not good for your weight loss plans. You might get so frustrated and just give up. Stress can also lead to binge eating.
Sticking to the same old food day in and day out can be boring and uninspiring. Try healthy food from around the world right at home. Some of them can be easy to cook in your home kitchen.
Eating your main meals in front of the TV, work table or computer screen is a typical bad habit among some of us. It is difficult to be eating healthily this way and besides it is bad for your digestion. If you must be munching on some food while working, munch on carrot sticks instead.
Poor food choices, unhealthy snacks and too much fast and processed food not only lead to an expanding waistline but also clogged arteries. Taking control of the way you eat can lead to positive weight loss and a healthy body.

We all know that excess fat is a serious health hazard but did you know that carrying excess belly fat is such a serious health hazard that it increases heart failure risk by up to 15%? It does this by increasing vascular inflammation, insulin resistance as well as lowering the level of good cholesterol found in the body. This makes it very important to lose stomach fat and to start you on this healthy journey, here are some foods to help you lose belly fat quickly.

Foods To Lose Belly Fat
1. Almonds
Almonds and various other nuts and seeds are extremely healthy as they include a high amount of monounsaturated fats which improve heart health as they increase the amount of good fats in the body. They contain high amounts of protein which helps to make you feel fuller faster which will help to trim your belly and your figure by not allowing you to eat more than you should.
One important feature of protein is that it helps you build lean muscle if you incorporate resistance training into your exercises. When you build lean muscle, it will increase the results you are able to achieve through exercise. More muscle leads to more fat burning by the body. More fat burning means less belly fat which means that almonds and other nuts are some of the best foods to lose belly fat. Eat them raw or dry roasted and avoid smoked or salted nuts. Good choices besides almonds include sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc.
2. Eggs
Eggs are a great source of protein which makes them one of the best foods to lose belly fat as protein helps build lein muscle which helps to burn fat.
Some studies have also shown that those who consume eggs at the start of the day consume less calories later in the day than those who start off the day without an egg. Consuming fewer calories a day means a leaner body so have an egg for breakfast.
3. Lean Meat Like Turkey
Turkey and many other lean meats are also a great source of protein which is essential for fat and calorie burning through the creation of lean muscle. Eating more protein has been shown to reduce the amount of fat around your midsection and foods containing great amounts of protein are some of the best foods to lose belly fat. In addition to turkey, try lean steak, fish, chicken, Canadian bacon, shellfish, etc, while avoiding bacon, rib eye, T-bone steak, sausage, etc.
4. Peanut Butter
The all natural and sugar free type of peanut butter is another of the best foods to lose belly fat as it is loaded with healthy fats that are extremely beneficial for fat burning as well as to keep you feeling fuller for longer periods of time, to clean out your arteries and to increase the amount of good cholesterol. Other butters that are good for you include cashew butter and almond butter.

How to Kick Your Smoking Habit

Posted by luputtenan2

There are few things more damaging to the human body than a smoking habit. Smoking has long been conclusively linked to many forms of cancer, stroke, coronary heart disease and many other life-threatening diseases. Not surprisingly, many of the 45 million smokers in the United States try to quit smoking every year. Unfortunately, smoking is notoriously addictive; of the roughly 44 percent of smokers who try to quit each year, only 4 to 7 percent actually succeed.
Given the importance of quitting smoking, a number of methods have been developed over the years to make it easier for smokers to quit. By implementing these changes in lifestyle, you could stand a better chance at finally eliminating your addiction to smoking.
Remove All Temptations - Breaking nicotine's deadly grip on your body is tough enough without constantly being reminded of smoking. Leaving ashtrays, lighters, match trays and cigarettes around your house or apartment only adds to the temptation to resume your smoking habit.
Another Reason to Drink Water - We all know that water is important for the body - who hasn't heard the "eight glasses per day" recommendation? But did you know that water can help you quit smoking? Water helps cleanse the body of nicotine, while simultaneously reducing your mouth's craving for this dangerous narcotic.
Anticipate Your Cravings - During the quitting process, you will inevitably feel the urge to break down and have a cigarette. While being tempted by the toxic allure of nicotine, it is absolutely crucial to remember that the urge will pass. Simply remind yourself to persevere, and you can ride out the craving until it subsides. Many times, these urges dissolve after a short period of time. You might consider writing a note with this very message, pulling it out whenever necessary.
Seek Support from Others - Fighting against cigarettes is often too big a struggle for one person to handle. A lack of external support can often derail a smoker's efforts to live a healthier life. Interacting with other smokers in the same boat might make it easier for you to accomplish your goal. There are a number of smoker support groups that offer encouragement and assistance to recovering smokers.
Manage Your Stress Level - A stressful day at home or work is often enough to get ex-smokers to reach back into the cigarette pack. By controlling your stress levels, you can cut off many of your urges at the root, thereby reducing your overall desire to smoke. You can reduce your body's amount of stress by listening to relaxing music, getting massages or practicing yoga or tai chi.
Put Down the Bottle (and Other Triggers Too) - If you truly want to quit smoking, you might have to temporarily give up alcohol as well, or at least reduce your alcohol intake. Alcohol is leading triggers of relapses for smokers, so you could very well feel an irresistible urge to smoke after downing a few beers.
Alcohol isn't the only substance that can lead to a nicotine craving. Many people find that they "need" a cigarette after drink a cup of coffee. Whatever your trigger turns out to be, it's important to try and avoid it while quitting smoking.
Patch Things Up - Recent decades have seen the advent of the nicotine patch, a patch that slowly injects its user with nicotine throughout the day. Nicotine is the chemical compound that gives cigarettes their addictive quality. The user then switches to less and less potent patches, until he or she no longer needs nicotine. Patches are not without side effects, as they can cause upset stomach, diarrhea, headaches, itching near the patch and even vomiting. Nicotine patches can also cause nightmares, so you may want to remove them

Green Tea Extract Benefits

Posted by luputtenan2 on Monday, January 19, 2009

What are the known green tea extract benefits? The only thing that we know for sure is that catechins found in the teas are antioxidants and antioxidants protect the cells of the body from free radicals, one of the primary causes of cellular aging.

Free radicals are molecules that are found within the cells and in the spaces between them. Exposure to toxins causes them to behave erratically, causing damage to the cellular membranes, the body's fibers and to the DNA strands within the cell.

When the DNA strands become damage, cellular reproduction becomes faulty. The cell may reproduce to form a cancer cell or it may simply be weaker than its parent cell. Antioxidants are defensive molecules that neutralize free radicals and prevent them from damaging our bodies.

That's why you will see it said that one of the green tea extract benefits is in the area of cancer prevention. According to scientific studies, the extracts may reduce your chance of getting stomach cancer by as much as 50% and throat cancer by 11%. Most of us want to do everything that we can to avoid that disease.

Another of the green tea extract benefits is in the area of heart disease prevention. It is believed that the tea-catechins are responsible for what is known as the Japanese paradox. Despite high numbers of smokers, the incidence of heart disease is lower than would be expected.

But, for heart disease prevention, there are a number of important supplements, including omega3 fatty acids and a unique antioxidant known as resveratrol.

That antioxidant was found when researchers were looking at the "French" paradox, which is lower than expected cases of heart disease, despite a diet that is high in saturated fat. Red wine, a favorite beverage, was found to contain this antioxidant called resveratrol and it is believed to be the cause of the reduced incidence of heart disease.

Suppose you wanted to counter the other causes of cellular aging. One of them is glycation. In the bloodstream, glucose attaches itself to protein molecules and form what is referred to as a "grotesque" molecule.

These molecules cannot be used by the cells for energy or as a building block. As they decompose, they release toxic end-products that increase the number and activity of free radicals.

Preventing glycation is not one of the green tea extract benefits. The only nutrient that is known to oppose glycation is carnosine, a peptide composed of the amino acids beta-alanine and histidine.

It is not considered an essential dietary component, because, under normal situations, the body can synthesize it. But it has been found that carnosine levels are lower in the elderly and in those with age-related diseases.

Carnosine also has antioxidant activity, as well as the anti-glycation activity mentioned above and it helps to rid the body of heavy metals. The most effective anti-aging supplements combine the green tea extract benefits with those of carnosine, resveratrol and other important nutrients.

That's the kind of supplement that I recommend for everyone.

The Power Of Fruits - Anti-Aging Health Foods

Posted by luputtenan2 on Friday, April 27, 2007

Are you concerned about the physical well being of your body? Are you feeling sluggish and run down? Does your stomach feel bloated and uncomfortable? Do you carry extra weight in your stomach area? Is your skin aging more quickly than you feel it should? Are you beginning to have health problems that are effecting the quality of your life? Do you feel that you are getting the adequate vitamins and minerals from your diet?
We are told our bodies need five helpings of fruits per day. This is difficult but essential to our over all health. Fruits contain dietary fiber that helps our digestive tract. It is important to keep our digestive tract clear and moving. If we do not, a build up occurs and can cause disease. Nutrients can not be absorbed into our body as easily if there is build up. It is possible to hold up to 50 pounds of fecal matter in our intestine, making us sluggish, adding extra weight and adding extra inches to our mid section.
Some of the benefits of fruits are as follows:
1. Anti-Aging: We are all concerned about growing older. We can slow down the aging process if we give our bodies the essential nutrients. More importantly, however, is the quality of our lives when we are older. We want to be able to enjoy our later years and be able to do the things that we love doing.
2. Energy: If our digestive tract is clear, we will have more energy. We will not have the toxins in our system making us sluggish. Also, when we eat more of the foods that are healthy for us, we will be less likely to eat carbohydrates or sugary foods that slow our metabolism.
3. Clear and Healthy Looking Skin: Again having a healthy digestive tract is critical. When we are holding toxins in our body they will often be eliminated through our pours. This will cause break outs and give our skin a sallow look.
4. Improved Mental Focus: When our bodies are receiving proper nutrition we will naturally have better mental clarity. We will be able to work more effectively for a longer period of time. If our stomach is full of lighter foods such as fruit, especially in the afternoon, we will not feel as sluggish.
5. Weight Maintenance: Weight loss and maintenance can be one of the desired consequences of consuming more fruits. Keeping our digestive tracts clear, filling our stomach with more easily absorbed food with less caloric intake, gives a less heavy feeling which leads to more activity.
6. Antioxidants: Many fruits are high in antioxidants. The environment and certain preservatives in foods, put unhealthy toxins in our bodies. Fruits can help our bodies get rid of the damaging toxins that can cause disease and pre-mature aging.
7. Immune System: When our immune system is strong, we are more capable of fighting illness and disease. Today, there are many immune deficiency diseases that have serious debilitating side effects. Lupus, chronic fatigue and some forms of arthritis, to name just a few.
Some of the fruits highest in antioxidants are acai berry, apricot, purple grape, pear, cranberry, blueberry, passion fruit, white grape, kiwi, pomegranate, banana, bilberry, nashi pear, lychee fruit, camu camu, prune and wolf berry.
The world's population at large is sorely lacking in the life-changing nutrients that come from some of nature's most wondrous fruits. For most, their only fruit intake has become an occasional apple, banana or orange.
Cheaper, processed alternatives have replaced many of Earth's most powerful resources for optimum health - Fresh fruits from the richest soils of the world. Yet in this age of environmental pollution of air, water and food, the need for wholesome fruits has never been greater.

The Real Antiaging Medicine

Posted by luputtenan2 on Friday, February 2, 2007

When it comes to slowing the process of aging, a healthy lifestyle is always the best medicine. Nothing has been shown to have a greater ability to hinder – and even reverse aging – then the integration of a nutritious diet and consistent exercise into your every day routine. These significant lifestyle choices can be easily referred to as antiaging medicine – the most powerful remedy in the aging process.
To begin with, diet can be considered a formidable antiaging medicine. Whatever we put in our bodies – the choices we make each and every day – determine our course of aging. Researchers have confirmed again and again that the nutrients found in whole, natural foods do as much to stop the spread of disease as any pharmaceuticals we could take.
Consider food your antiaging medicine and shop accordingly. Choose fresh fruits – especially citrus fruits and berries that deliver high levels of antioxidants that fight disease; fresh vegetables – especially spinach, kale, cauliflower, and broccoli; complex carbohydrates such as natural whole grain products; and proteins such as lean meats and raw nuts. These foods deliver essential vitamins and minerals that actually help your body shield itself from the ravages of aging. In addition, a proper diet will inevitably show on your skin giving you a healthier, more youthful look.
In conjunction with proper diet, exercise is just as important as an antiaging medicine. Keeping the body active through cardiovascular exercise, strength training, and a flexibility program will lower blood pressure, reduce stress, strengthen muscles, bolster the cardiovascular system, and improve the body’s overall function. If you want a strong body as you age you need to start with a strong body and maintain it. Antiaging medicine of this magnitude is a commitment.
But dedicating yourself to this antiaging medicine regime will pay off in so many ways – allowing you to age with strength, beauty, and vitality.
