Whole Body Weight Training Can Help Your Heart

Have heart problems? Start lifting some weights
while doing your rebounding or whole body vibration.

While conventional wisdom once held that people with
heart disease should not exercise or weight train,
a new scientific statement from the American Heart
Association says some resistance training can be
good.

"Just like we once learned that people with heart
disease benefited from aerobic exercise, we are now
learning that guided, moderate weight training also
has significant benefits," said Mark Williams,
professor of medicine at Creighton University School
of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska.

Weight training is seen as a complement to aerobic
exercise, not a replacement, he said. But it provides
everyday benefits.

"It helps people better perform tasks of daily
living -- like lifting sacks of groceries," Williams
said in a statement.

Resistance or static attraction whole body vibration
training is not recommended for all people.

http://www.phmiracleliving.com/vibratrim.htm

Recommendations for an initial static attraction
whole body vibration weight program and resistance
training should be performed:

* in a rhythmical manner at a moderate-to-slow
controlled speed;

* through a full range of motion, avoiding
breath-holding and straining by exhaling during
the contraction or exertion phase of the lift
and inhaling during the relaxation phase;

* alternating between upper and lower body work,
to allow for adequate rest between exercises.

Weight lifters have traditionally focused on training
that involves three sets of repetitions but the Heart
Association said single sets provide nearly the same
improvement in muscular strength at first.

And they are easier to stick to.

"For people with cardiovascular disease, the level
of resistance should be reduced and number of
repetitions increased, resulting in a lower relative
effort and reducing the likelihood of breath-holding
and straining," the statement reads.

The heart benefits of weight training include
increased muscle mass which can help in weight
control.

"Patients who have had cardiac events are often
apprehensive about returning to this type of activity,
or doing things in their daily lives that might be
perceived as strenuous ... Now we know that they can
return to the active things they enjoy doing,"
Williams said.

"I love whole body vibrational exercise and I do it
every day after my 3 mile run," said Dr. Robert O.
Young.

Do You Know What Sets Off A Heart Attack or Stroke?

Posted by luputtenan2

The answer is a four letter word -

A C I D!

Heart attacks, strokes, and cardiac arrests seem
like they come out of the blue, but most don't.

They usually appear after cholesterol-rich acidic
plaque has festered in the arteries that nourish
the heart and brain.

So what makes one happen at a particular time?

A trigger, reports the July 2007 issue of the
"Harvard Heart Letter."

Important triggers include:

* Waking from sleep. Before you wake up, your
body trickles acidic stress hormones into the
bloodstream. This helps you get up, but also
slightly stresses the heart. That, along with
dehydration that occurs overnight and the o
vernight fade in protection from acidic heart
medicines, may explain why heart attacks are
most common in the morning.

* Heavy physical exertion is highly acidic.
Shoveling snow, running, and other strenuous
activities can be acidic triggers. But don't
be afraid to exercise -- exertion is much less
likely to cause trouble in people who exercise
and are living and eating alkaline regularly.

* Anger is a highly acidic emotion. A bout of
anger can increase the chances of having a heart
attack up to 14-fold during the following two hours.

* Outfections of acidity. Pneumonia, flu, and other
outfections can be potent acidic triggers for heart
attacks and strokes.

* An acidic meal of meat, alcohol and dairy will
tenderize and weaken the heart and lead to a
cardiac arrest. Just like Heinz 57 steak sauce
tenderizes a steak so acid from meat (especially
chicken and pork), alcohol, and the lactic acid
from dairy products will tenderize and weaken your
heart setting you up for a heart attack or cardiac
arrest.

Other triggers include sexual activity (if not
alkaline), overeating (highly acidic), severe
hot or cold weather, air pollution, natural
disasters, drug use (always acidic), grief,
lack of sleep and cholesterol lowering drugs.

Of course, most people with heart disease (or an
acidic heart) get out of bed in the morning, shovel
snow, make love, get angry, and suffer through the
cleansing effects of the flu just fine.

Still, knowing what sets off heart attacks, strokes,
or cardiac arrests can help you avoid triggers or
blunt their power, says the "Harvard Heart Letter."

Your insurance policy for preventing a heart attack,
stroke or cardiac arrest is very simply - get off
the acidic foods, drinks and emotions and start
alkalizing your body with the pH Miracle Living Plan.

Indian Herb May Help To Reduce High Blood Sugars

Posted by luputtenan2

An herb long-used in traditional Indian medicine
may help people with diabetes control their blood
sugar, a new study suggests.

Researchers found that the herb, called Salacia
oblonga, reduced post-meal blood sugar surges in
66 men and women with type 2 diabetes.

Also known as Saptrangi and Ponkoranti, S. oblonga
is from a native shrub plant found in the forests
of India and Sri Lanka. The roots and stems of the
herb are used in Ayurvedic and traditional Indian
medicine to treat obesity and diabetes.

The findings, reported in the American Journal of
Clinical Nutrition, support the results of earlier
work that looked at S. oblonga's blood sugar effects
in people without diabetes. And the result suggests
that the herb could be used along with diet, exercise
and medication to help manage type 2 diabetes,
according to the study authors.

The researchers, led by Jennifer A. Williams, are
with Columbus, Ohio-based Abbott Laboratories,
which has funded previous research on the herb.

For the study, Williams and her colleagues asked
participants to drink a high-carbohydrate liquid
meal replacement on three separate occasions.
On one day they had the meal alone and on another
two days they consumed the drink along with a dose
of S. oblonga extract, either 240 mg or 480 mg.

On average, the study found, the lower S. oblonga
dose decreased participants' peak blood sugar
response by 19 percent, while the higher dose
lowered it by 27 percent. Both doses also tempered
the normal post-meal increase in insulin, a hormone
that regulates blood sugar.

The S. oblonga plant grows in limited areas of Asia
and is not widely known in the U.S. Extracts are
used in Japan, however, as an ingredient in foods
and supplements intended to manage diabetes and obesity.

The herb is thought to work similarly to oral diabetes
drugs called alpha-glucosidase inhibitors, which
impede the body's absorption of carbohydrates.

S. oblonga, and other substances like it, could be
"ideal" nutritional therapies for diabetes, Williams
and her colleagues write. People often find it tough
to stick with diet restrictions, the researchers note,
and a supplement like S. oblonga could allow diabetics
to eat a carbohydrate-rich meal without an overly
high blood sugar response.

Studies should now look at the herb's effects on blood
sugar control over the long-term, the researchers
conclude.

This herb will be available next month in a
diabetic supplement developed Dr. Robert O. Young
with several other new herbs that neutralizes the
acidic sugars - thus lowering post-meal blood sugars.

96% of Type II diabetics control their blood
sugars without medications, in our book,

Obesity is Not a Fat Problem - It is an Acidic Problem

Posted by luputtenan2

If people keep gaining weight at the current rate,
fat will be the norm by 2015, with 75 percent of
U.S. adults overweight and 41 percent obese, U.S.
researchers predicted on Wednesday.

A team at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore
examined 20 studies published in journals and
looked at national surveys of weight and behavior
for their analysis, published in the Journal
Epidemiologic Reviews.

"Obesity is a public health crisis. If the rate
of obesity and overweight continues at this pace,
by 2015, 75 percent of adults and nearly 24 percent
of U.S. children and adolescents will be overweight
or obese," Dr. Youfa Wang, who led the study, said in a statement.

They defined adult overweight and obesity using a
standard medical definition called body mass index.
People with a BMI of 25 or above are considered
overweight, while those with BMIs of 30 or above
are obese and at serious risk of heart disease,
diabetes and some cancers.

Studies show that 66 percent of U.S. adults were
overweight or obese in 2003 and 2004. An alarming
80 percent of black women aged 40 or over are
overweight and 50 percent are obese.

Sixteen percent of U.S. children and adolescents
are overweight and 34 percent are at risk of
becoming overweight, according to federal government
figures.

Every group is steadily getting heavier,
Wang said.

"Our analysis showed patterns of obesity or
overweight for various groups of Americans,"
said May Beydoun, who worked on the study.

"Obesity is likely to continue to increase,
and if nothing is done, it will soon become
the leading preventable cause of death in the
United States."

"Obesity is not a fat problem, it is an acid
problem. Too many people are eating an acidic
diet and living an acidic life. The problem
is not the body fat, it is the acid from the foods
we eat. We need to realize that fat is a
buffer of dietary and metabolic acids. When
we decrease the acidity in our diet and lifestyle
then we can lose weight naturally and in a healthy
way," said Dr. Robert O. Young.

To lose up to 3 pounds a day in a natural and
healthy way read, The pH Miracle for Weight Loss,
by Dr. Robert and Shelley Young.

Three supplements that are helpful in losing
weight are:

1) Omega 5 or CLA - Take 1000mg of CLA 6 times a day

The Power Of Fruits - Anti-Aging Health Foods

Posted by luputtenan2

Are you concerned about the physical well being of your body? Are you feeling sluggish and run down? Does your stomach feel bloated and uncomfortable? Do you carry extra weight in your stomach area? Is your skin aging more quickly than you feel it should? Are you beginning to have health problems that are effecting the quality of your life? Do you feel that you are getting the adequate vitamins and minerals from your diet?
We are told our bodies need five helpings of fruits per day. This is difficult but essential to our over all health. Fruits contain dietary fiber that helps our digestive tract. It is important to keep our digestive tract clear and moving. If we do not, a build up occurs and can cause disease. Nutrients can not be absorbed into our body as easily if there is build up. It is possible to hold up to 50 pounds of fecal matter in our intestine, making us sluggish, adding extra weight and adding extra inches to our mid section.
Some of the benefits of fruits are as follows:
1. Anti-Aging: We are all concerned about growing older. We can slow down the aging process if we give our bodies the essential nutrients. More importantly, however, is the quality of our lives when we are older. We want to be able to enjoy our later years and be able to do the things that we love doing.
2. Energy: If our digestive tract is clear, we will have more energy. We will not have the toxins in our system making us sluggish. Also, when we eat more of the foods that are healthy for us, we will be less likely to eat carbohydrates or sugary foods that slow our metabolism.
3. Clear and Healthy Looking Skin: Again having a healthy digestive tract is critical. When we are holding toxins in our body they will often be eliminated through our pours. This will cause break outs and give our skin a sallow look.
4. Improved Mental Focus: When our bodies are receiving proper nutrition we will naturally have better mental clarity. We will be able to work more effectively for a longer period of time. If our stomach is full of lighter foods such as fruit, especially in the afternoon, we will not feel as sluggish.
5. Weight Maintenance: Weight loss and maintenance can be one of the desired consequences of consuming more fruits. Keeping our digestive tracts clear, filling our stomach with more easily absorbed food with less caloric intake, gives a less heavy feeling which leads to more activity.
6. Antioxidants: Many fruits are high in antioxidants. The environment and certain preservatives in foods, put unhealthy toxins in our bodies. Fruits can help our bodies get rid of the damaging toxins that can cause disease and pre-mature aging.
7. Immune System: When our immune system is strong, we are more capable of fighting illness and disease. Today, there are many immune deficiency diseases that have serious debilitating side effects. Lupus, chronic fatigue and some forms of arthritis, to name just a few.
Some of the fruits highest in antioxidants are acai berry, apricot, purple grape, pear, cranberry, blueberry, passion fruit, white grape, kiwi, pomegranate, banana, bilberry, nashi pear, lychee fruit, camu camu, prune and wolf berry.
The world's population at large is sorely lacking in the life-changing nutrients that come from some of nature's most wondrous fruits. For most, their only fruit intake has become an occasional apple, banana or orange.
Cheaper, processed alternatives have replaced many of Earth's most powerful resources for optimum health - Fresh fruits from the richest soils of the world. Yet in this age of environmental pollution of air, water and food, the need for wholesome fruits has never been greater.

The Real Secret to Long Term Weight Loss

Posted by luputtenan2 on Friday, April 13, 2007

In one of the world's largest diet studies, it appears that diets actually damage your health. The results and the problems diets can cause should give you reason to keep reading.
According to Miller Jones, a professor of nutrition and food science at the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, Minnesota...
4th graders are aware of the word diet, especially the girls.
Recently a massive worldwide study concluded that diets don't work long term for the majority of people on them and it might even put your life at risk.
This type of yo-yo behavior is linked to many health problems. Because of the strain on the body of repeated weight loss and weight gain, the researchers found that the dieters would have been better off not dieting at all.
Research has shown the repeated rapid weight gain and loss associated with dieting can double the risk of death from heart disease, including heart attacks, and the risk of premature death in general.
For starters...
When you think 'diet' you are actively engaging in short term thinking. When you start to think of it as something you go on and then off again, that's the wrong direction.
Some of the BEST resources on nutrition are not diets. They are eating plans. They are the basics of eating correctly for the rest of your life. Eating for everyday living is something you can be taught. There's nothing short term about them.
"The benefits of dieting are simply too small and the potential harms of dieting are too large for it to be recommended as a safe and effective treatment for obesity." -Dr Traci Mann
A quick test is to simply look at any given plan and immediately ask yourself...
Can I eat this way for the rest of my life and not fall prey to hunger cravings or temptations?
Frankly...
If you are overweight, then thinking in the short term is exactly why you could be doomed to fail! As you bounce from one plan to the next, you become more and more frustrated.
FACT: Many diets that use a severe calorie restriction just makes it harder to lose the weight the next time.
FACT: Some studies show that repeated weight loss and regain actually increase the changes you'll gain even more weight the next time.
FACT: It shouldn't come as a shock that people who exercise report the most long term weight loss.
Now with all this in mind...
No matter what eating plan you choose or what your goals, just drop the word 'diet' from your vocabulary and pick a plan you can stick with for life. That encourages slow weight loss or weight gain. That doesn't "demonize" foods but helps you pick and choose from healthy alternatives and explains the reasons why.
If you are always changing your eating habits for special events or every 8 weeks, you might be dieting. Before you start your next diet, that's the time to step back and ask yourself if you know all you can about proper, healthy nutrition. Learning how to eat correctly is something you can stick with for life and avoid the common frustrations
