To Lose Weight, Feed Your Brains

Posted by luputtenan2 on Friday, July 8, 2005

When was the last time you focused so much on a task that you forgot to eat? You did not really forget, but you were too much interested in what you were working on to stop doing it and go to the fridge. Years ago, when your body was slim and your head swollen with projects, did you ever think that to be a grown up would not mean to be responsible and free?Stop looking for somebody to sue: nobody shovelled food in your mouth. Stop whining about commercials that influence you: nobody tied you up in front of the telly. Stop opening your mouth and closing your mind. You know, everybody know, that the higher the education, the lower the weight. If you point at a person you know who has a PhD and 30 extra pounds, you act exactly as those people who say that there is no correlation between smoking and lung cancer since their grand father died of old age after having smoked thousands of cigarettes. I don't write for you. Bye bye!
Now that we are between us, let's move on to the main point. How much does this portrait look like you:
  • You often feel incredibly bored,
  • You think that you are more worth than what you show,
  • If you were given a new start, you would lead your life differently,
  • You cannot help wishing something else than getting up to go to work each morning,
  • In fact, it looks sometimes so vain that you'd rather stay in bed.
Do you recognize yourself? If yes, the choice is limited: either you fall in a depression, or you feed your brains. Since in order to get out of a depression, you would have to feed your brains, jump directly to the second solution!
First, recognize your qualities and make them shine in others' eyes. Modesty? You are not asked to show haughtiness but to get a sense of pride from your abilities. Would the world be better if Mozart's father had shyly hidden his son's gift? Don't let anyone mislead you: those who advocate modesty have nothing to show. Most time, they do not want you to succeed because it would be the evidence of their own failure. They brandish their righteousness against you because it is, by far, easier to damage your chances than to improve themselves. So, be honest and recognize your qualities.
Some people might advise you to devote your life to a charity cause. It is another way to prevent you from going ahead of them. Do you think that it would have been a great idea if Pasteur had chosen, out of charity, to visit the poor instead of inventing "pasteurization"?
Then, choose the domain in which you will be able to scintillate. Again, do not be humble. The satisfaction of reaching a goal is proportional to the difficulty you encounter to reach it. If you aim to learn arranging flowers, sure, you will succeed, but you will feel as bored as today and your thirst for something to fulfill your life will remain as burning as it is right now. You need to be confronted with a task exciting enough to prevent you from dropping it to go out to eat, or to take time to order a pizza. If the excitement is not rewarding enough, you are going to turn towards "the fridge consolation".
Your goal must also be rather difficult to reach because you are going to need time to change your way of life; so, decide to master the violin, to write an anthology about Roman Poetry, to learn a foreign language or to obtain a degree in chemistry; anything requiring your intellectual faculties to fully work and that you will not be able to complete in a couple of weeks is an activity that deserves to be chosen. Of course, the better you like your goal, the greater your chance to reach it, but do not worry: usually, we are attracted by what we guess we are good at.
Not only "decide" to change, make your decision official: proudness will help you to go on the day you are tired or disheartened. Multiply your chances to succeed by eliminating the childish desire for "telling them". If you suffer from not being estimated at your true value, make yourself known to your own eyes. The rest will come. Within three years you are going to gain higher education that will lead you to higher income while losing extra weight. Sure, people will notice.

Weight Loss – The Soft Drink Diet

Posted by luputtenan2 on Thursday, July 7, 2005

In the early ninety’s doctors were beginning to see the growing trend in American’s waist lines. So for a very short period of time they came out on the offensive by promoting better foods to eat. An easy one was endorsing pasta meals. What they failed to mention was the best time to eat pasta and what other things to not eat with it. Thus, fifteen years later, you are twenty percent fatter, and more confused than ever. Pasta by itself is not necessarily the problem, but combine that with soft drinks or wine, then you have the Venus fly trap.
Remember years ago, the sticky strip you hung out in your back yard. Flies would fly by and stick to the strap. Well, that is what soft drinks do in your system. While you may be eating half way descent food groups (not to mention your portions) the sugar drinks act as the sticky fly trap. This hinders the digestive process.
In plain English; the longer the food stays in your system the more of a chance you have of getting fatter. The soft drinks act as barriers. In many cases when it comes to weight loss, the food combinations really get you. The biggest no-no is starchy foods with sugary foods.
If you have wine, cut down on the breads.
If you have pasta’s cut down on the wines.
If you have soft drinks, cut back on the starchy complex foods.
No matter the combination, combining pasta meals with sugary drinks is eating you up from the inside out. If you want to lose a few pounds, lose a few ounces of soft drinks in your daily diet.

Water is useful when we are trying for losing weight. Water suppresses the appetite and helps to reduce the body fat. There are lots of study materials about how water help in reducing fat available online. Study shows that if the intake of water in body is less then this will increase the fat level in the body.

Living with Your Diet

Posted by luputtenan2 on Wednesday, July 6, 2005

Recently, I was reading about a diet plan where you throw everything out of your pantry. Although this sounds like great news for the supermarkets, over the short-term, this leaves very few choices for you to actually eat.
Can you exist on salad, topped with Flax seed oil dressing, for the rest of your life?
People believe that they must pay penance for their eating sins. Dietary and exercise torture seems to be good for the conscience and the prescription of the day. How else can we explain “off the wall” diets and “extreme” exercise programs? Whatever happened to eating in moderation and using common sense? Even if you are eating a “diet cookie,” you can’t have all you want.
If you travel, or eat in restaurants frequently, you have to eat in moderation, space your meals out, carry healthy snacks, or visit the salad bar at your local supermarket. There are plenty of good choices, and it won’t cost you an “arm and a leg.”
When you eat, you shouldn’t feel stuffed after a meal. This slows down your digestive system, similar to the principle of a “log jam,” and you may not eat for six hours or more, depending upon the amount of food consumed. This is a time when your body is crying to go for a walk.
You should feel comfortably full every time you leave the table, and you should eat five or six times a day; three moderately-sized meals and at least two healthy snacks.
Sorry to say, diet cookies are rarely healthy. If they were of nutritional value, I would live on the Chocolate Chip Cookie Diet.
Now back to reality, if you love dessert, you can’t give it up for life. Depending on the state your health, you may have to seriously cut back. Therefore, consult with your family doctor, get a diet that makes sense, and please walk, swim, or exercise regularly.

7 Useful Tips That Will Help You Lose Weight

Posted by luputtenan2 on Tuesday, July 5, 2005

1. Increase your fiber intake. The body needs a lot of fiber. So try to include in your diet as many fruits and vegetables as you can.
2. Go crazy on vegetables. Vegetables are your best bet when it comes to losing pounds. Nature has a terrific spread when it comes to choosing vegetables. And the leafy green vegetables are your best bet. Try to include a salad in you diet always.
3. Control that sweet tooth. Remember that sweet things generally mean more calories. It is natural that we have cravings for sweet things especially chocolates and other confectionary. Go easy on theses things and each time you consume something sweet understand that it is going to add on somewhere.
4. Fix times to have meals and stick to it. Try to have food at fixed times of the day. You can stretch these times by half an hour, but anything more than that is going to affect your eating pattern, the result will either be a loss of appetite or that famished feeling which will make you stuff yourself with more than what is required the next time you eat.
5. Eat only when you are hungry. Some of us have the tendency to eat whenever we see food. We use parties as an excuse to stuff our selves. Understand that the effect of a whole week of dieting can be wasted by just one day’s party food. Whenever you are offered something to eat do not decline it completely but just break of a nibble so that you appear to mind your manners and at the same time can watch your diet.
6. Quit snacking in between meals. Do not fall for snacks in between meals. This is especially true for those who have to travel a lot. They feel that the only time they can get a bite to eat is snacks and junk food. The main problem with most snacks and junk food is that they are usually less filling and contain a lot of fat and calories. Just think about French fries…tempting but terribly fattening.
7. Go easy on tea and coffee. Tea and coffee are harmless by themselves. It’s when you add the cream and sugar that they become fattening. Did you know that having a cup of tea or coffee that has cream and at least two cubes of sugar is as bad as having a big piece of rich chocolate cake?

Lose Weight and Keep it Off Permanently Without Fancy Diets

Posted by luputtenan2 on Saturday, July 2, 2005

For years the experts have been telling us that diets do not work, and my experience in the field for almost twenty years confirms that. Yet every year several new fad diets and supplements emerge, claiming they have the answer, and making people rich.
Any diet will help you lose weight, there is no arguing that. I have several personal friends who have lost significant weight on the new low carb diets. Whether you can lose weight on a diet has never been the issue. I worked for Nutri-System several years ago and saw some people lose tons of weight. The issue has been and always will be whether a person keeps the weight off. Research has always shown that within 5 years, anywhere between 85 and 90 percent of people will put the weight back on after stopping a diet.
The key here is after "stopping a diet". Very few of the fad diets, or the diets where you buy special food, can or will be followed permanently. This is precisely why they don't work. There is also evidence that so-called yo-yo dieting is worse for your health than being moderately overweight. Most people I know with a weight problem have lost and gained at least 3 or 4 times in their lifetime.
The key then is to find a way to develop a lifestyle of eating and exercise that you will implement permanently. Human nature will not tolerate deprivation well, so you must be able to have some of you want, and the luxury to not do what you have to some of the time. You must eat the things you like once in while, and be able to say I don't want to exercise once in while, or you give in and give up.
For most people, making some very subtle adjustments to their lifestyle can help immediately. Things like cutting down your meal portions by one third, and eating slower, can make a big difference. Taking the stairs instead of the elevator. These little things can make a difference, and most people can implement and maintain them without too much grief.
You have to give your body a chance to adjust over the long term. The cells in our body reproduce themselves once or twice a year, and when they do, they carry the memory of their environment with them. Therefore you must provide them with a new environment for at least that long before your body stops fighting you.
Also remember that if you starve your body, or even just lose a lot of weight quickly, your body is going to strive to regain it's original weight, and store what you take in. Again you must give it time to adjust and fight the impulses that it sends you. The experts know that a good rate of weight loss for keeping it off is about 2 to 5 pounds per month. This allows the body to gradually adjust. You can lose more than that, but expect your body to react more.

Is Diet Confusion Stopping You From Losing Weight?

Posted by luputtenan2 on Friday, July 1, 2005

Diet advice – a million “experts”, hundreds of snake-oil miracle pills, and an infinite number of human bodies make losing weight the subject of controversy and confusion.
The diet program that worked miracles for your best friend does nothing for you. You feel depressed – you feel doomed to be fat. You want that miracle pill that will take the weight off in 48 hours.
Unless your DNA is the same, why should her diet plan work for you? You have a different body shape, different level of health, different life style and different emotional outlook.
Diet advice – Eat small meals 5-6 times a day. Better for digestion and keeps the metabolism high.
Diet advice – Eat only 3 full meals a day. Not enough stomach acid to properly digest food if you eat 5-6 times a day.
Diet advice – Eat only vegetables or avoid all things white.
Diet advice – Eat only protein
Diet advice – Eat only one type of food at a time
What is a person to do? Throw up your hand in despair or just think for a minute. Listen to your own body. Does eating a big meal make you feel sleepy? Does eating sugar make you feel sleepy? Does eating white bread make you feel sleepy? Or jittery?
Maybe you have a blood sugar problem. Sadly, most people do in this day and age of epidemic diabetes. You don’t want any peaks and valleys. So your diet should be along the lines of several small meals a day. You want to eat every couple of hours to keep your sugar levels – level.
Are the traditional 3 meals a day wrong? No, not for some people. If however, you stuff your stomach until it protrudes and you feel like you can’t breathe, you are probably over doing it. Did you go for a good run before you sat down to breakfast? Did you go for a nice walk after that evening meal?
It is really not about 3 meals verses 6 meals, it is about what those meals consist of in the way of sugars, carbs and bad fats.
A diet of sensible healthy food and a half hour of exercise like a walk every day are guaranteed to give you good health. Over time it may even reverse some of the effects of that bad diet and lack of exercise program you lived on for so many years.
Focus on the good calories, the ones that are used to keep your body healthy. That doesn’t mean you can’t have a donut once in a while. A healthy diet is one that does not deprive you of food. A healthy diet may restrict the quantity of certain foods. A healthy exercise program wants you to move your body enough to maintain your muscle structure in more than your typing fingers.
Common sense and a positive intelligent attitude will make the difference.
